Zarino's Dusk Copper Earrings
Some pieces go on at the end of the day and you can feel something soften right away. I made these for the women who need a way to mark the moment when the work ends and the evening begins, each one cut from a single strip of copper, smoothed by hand, then twisted gradually into its spiral form until the full two and a half inches settle into what they were meant to be.
Copper has been worn close to the skin for thousands of years by those who needed help returning to themselves. The women who come back to me often say the same thing. Over time, they stopped carrying what they once held onto.
These are among the final earrings I will make before I close my workshop for good. I hope they find the shoulders that are ready to let go.
