Zarino's Sol Copper Earrings
Some pieces shift the way you carry yourself the moment you put them on. I made these for the women who are done making themselves smaller, each fan carefully cut by hand from a sheet of copper into its precise half circle, then hammered across the full two and a half inch span, one strike at a time, until the surface holds the warmth of every touch.
Copper has been worn close to the skin for thousands of years by those who wanted to feel the warmth of the sun even when it wasn’t there. The women who return to me often share the same feeling. Something in them opened again.
These are among the final earrings I will make before I close my workshop for good. I hope they find the faces that are ready to take up space.
